New Drug Testing Technology
LABORATORY BASED ORAL FLUID TESTING
OSAD has been performing Mobile Industrial Drug and Alcohol services and training since 1997. We have developed a forensically sound and ethical drug detection methodology that operates Canada wide 24/7. All of our mobile technicians are trained in accordance with the US DOT Urine Specimen Collection Guidelines and Breath Alcohol Technician training, as authorized by the Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance, and applied appropriately to a Canadian environment. Our technicians are equipped with Evidential Breath Testers listed on the Conforming Products List (CPL) of the US DOT National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and are prepared to conduct breath alcohol testing and to collect urine, hair or oral fluid specimens for DNA and forensic drug analysis. These specimens can be sent to a laboratory or analyzed using high-performance instant-result technology, depending on our client’s requirements. All DOT samples are sent to an accredited laboratory recognized on the DHHS-SAMHSA list of certified laboratories.
OSAD's evidential breath alcohol testing equipment, Intoximeter AlcoSensor lV, is approved for use in Canada by the Center for Forensic Science, Canadian Alcohol Test Committee, and is the only equipment currently available in a similar network that is thus approved. Equipment that is not approved by this group could create difficulty under legal scrutiny. OSAD’s testing equipment is regularly serviced and calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer’s protocol.
New Drug Testing Technology
If you suspect that drug use is a secret part of your business, but are aware of the restrictive court rulings and Human Rights Commission positions on drug testing, then you need to read this.
Courts are adamant that employers only test for drug use in an employee that is on company paid time, and only in safety sensitive positions. Drug use while on the job means possible impairment, performance deficits, and the risk of injury, death, environmental disaster or other catastrophic events.
There is a new technology that tests oral fluid (salvia) for the raw drugs in the individual, an indication of current drug use, not weekend or leisure time activity. It catches only those drugs that have been consumed in the last few hours, not those consumed days or weeks before. It catches drugs that are in the person's body and blood at the time of testing.
One of the strongest criticisms of the urine testing process is that it is demeaning or invasive. With our latest oral fluid testing system, a person simply places a swab in his or her mouth. When the collection pad is saturated, the test subject then places the swab in a collection vial and hands it over for analysis.
If your company already has a functioning drug testing policy, or has recognized the need for one, find out more about the latest drug testing technology, and how it can help keep drugs off of your work site.
